Kai sent in his Merida all the way from Hamburg, Germany. He wanted an absolute corker of a design doing based loosely on a Bahrain Merida team issue bike for the Giro d’Italia a few years ago, featuring a similar design and colour palette albeit with a larger pattern.
Kai wanted his pattern to be more intense and cover all the frame and remove all logos. This took a lot of masking, starting with a white base coat, masking off, then applying a gold layer, masking off and finally adding a black layer. Once masking was removed it left an absolutely crazy design behind, it’s quite reminiscent of the World War one battleships featuring ‘dazzle’ camouflage.
It’s certainly an interesting paint job for acquired tastes 😉
